Buster Keaton quits smoking

I went to see Buster at home before I played him in the Buster Keaton Story in 1957. Eleanor said, “He’s out in the garage. I’d appreciate it if you wouldn’t smoke around him, because he’s trying to give it up.” I went into the garage and we hugged each other and he sat back down. He had rigged up a little locomotive that was going around the inside of the garage. Every time the train went by, he’d put his lit cigarette on it, and it would go around slowly until it got in front of him again. Then he took another puff. This was his idea of giving up cigarettes.
